Initially formed and Incorporated in 2010 to organise and run the 17th Australian National Ballooning Championship, CCI has continued as a strong, well organised, well structured community based organisation aimed at bringing tourism to Canowindra.

With the 2011 Championship event finishing successfully in all regards with fantastic ballooning competition, attracting over 11,000 visitors and financially in the black CCI decided to utilise the skills and the structure developed to run an annual ballooning event. This annual event has the sanction of the Australian Ballooning Federation and hence the creditability to provide a much needed international standard competition to assist Australia's top pilots to hone their skills or newer pilots to learn from their more experienced counterparts.

Every endeavour will be made to attract overseas pilots as well as a world class director.

A new committee was elected in December 2012 and planning is now well underway for the 2013 "Canowindra Balloon Challenge" and 18th Australian National Ballooning Championships to be held between 20th to 27th April 2013.
There have been many leassons learnt over the last few years, we have improved our structure, unlisted the services of experts in anumber of fields and have broadened our appeal to the local community.
The big spectator event held on the 1st night that includes a fantastic night market with fantastic local food & wine, a balloon glow with 15 balloons lighting up the sky plus a great Rugby match between to strong local sided will now include local bands and other entertainment, a unique "Walk in a Balloon" opportunity for you to get photos of the kids inside a balloon envelope and not least lots more toilets.

Ballooning offers many opportunities for local participation even if you don't own a balloon or wish to be a pilot. CCI welcomes everyone who wishes to have a bit of fun, join in with a great group of people from all over Australia and contribute to the community.
